Lancé en 2000 par la société Mobipocket, le Mobipocket Reader est un logiciel permettant la lecture de fichiers au format PRC (Palm resource), lui-même basé sur le format OeB (open ebook). Le Mobipocket Reader est "universel", c’est-à-dire utilisable sur n’importe quel PDA. En avril 2002, la société lance un Mobipocket Reader pour ordinateur. En 2003, le Mobipocket Reader équipe tous les assistants personnels du marché, à savoir les gammes Palm Pilot, Pocket PC, eBookMan et Psion, et les smartphones de Nokia et Sony Ericsson. La gestion des livres numériques sous droits est faite au moyen du Mobipocket DRM System (DRM: digital rights management). -
6 Mobipocket DRM System
Créé par la société Mobipocket, le Mobipocket DRM System (DRM: digital rights management) est un logiciel serveur payant destiné aux éditeurs et distributeurs pour gérer le conditionnement, la protection et la vente sécurisée de livres numériques au format PRC (Palm resource), le format des fichiers lus par le Mobipocket Reader. Ce système de DRM permet de contrôler l’accès aux livres numériques sous droits, et donc de gérer les droits d’un livre en fonction des consignes données par le gestionnaire des droits, par exemple en autorisant ou non l’impression ou le prêt. -
7 Palm DRM System
Conçu par la société Palm, le Palm DRM System (DRM: digital rights management) est un serveur payant destiné aux éditeurs et distributeurs pour gérer le conditionnement, la protection, la distribution et la vente sécurisée de livres numériques au format PDB (Palm database), le format des fichiers lus par le Palm Reader. Ce système de DRM permet de contrôler l’accès aux livres numériques sous droits, et donc de gérer les droits d’un livre en fonction des consignes données par le gestionnaire des droits, par exemple en autorisant ou non l’impression ou le prêt. -
